The Orphanage

LODGING
Living spaces consist of large dormitories. They are well lit, heated, ventilated and provided with simple but comfortable bedsteads and beddings as well as closet space for each individual. The dormitories are divided into two sections, one for boys and one for girls, and each of the sections is in turn subdivided by age - groups.
Close to the dormitories are situated the bathing and sanitary facilities which are provided with hot water. The orphanage also owns its laundering facilities.
 

FOOD
The Orphanage provides the children and staff with three meals a day as recommended by the world Health
Organization. A bakery has been recently established in the Orphanage, and is under strict quality and health
Control.

The SCHOOL
The school consists of three division : The Kindergarten: 95 boys and girls, the Elementary: 351 children, and the Complementary: 218 students.

THE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
At a stone – throw of Beit Al – Yateem campus, stands the Arif Al – Nakadi vocational School. It consists of a modern building comprising dormitories, classrooms and laboratory and workshop space. Admission priority is given of Beit Al – Yateem's school. Few day students are also admitted. It provides teaching and training in business administration, general mechanics, general electricity and electronics. Its main languages are Arabic and English, with French as an additional language taught for four hours a week to the students of business administration. The school helps its graduates find jobs.

Health
Three physicians offer their services to Beit Al – Yateem, each for a day. Only one of them is paid for his services. The Orphanage has a dispensary, officially licensed by the Ministry of Health. Furthermore, all students, teachers and personnel of the Orphanage are covered by a group accident insurance plan. It is also noteworthy that the Orphanage receives many proposals from physicians who offer their free services.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The upperfloor of the Azzam Building is a theater hall large enough for 350 spectators. In it are conducted recreational activities for the students, such as music, plays, lectures, as well as other extra – mural activities for lack of such space in Abey at present.
 

SPORTS
Beit Al – Yateem boats six play grounds, three of which are covered such as allows the students sports activities throughout all four seasons. Specialized teachers take care of these activities which include meets with other schools.

Water and Electricity
Electricity is provided for the whole Orphanage by "Electricité du liban". When power is off because of rationing, power generating units belonging to the Orphanage take over. Fuel is provided from the local market.
Since water supply service is not totally adequate, we had to dig an artesian well in order to cut high water costs. In addition, two very large water tanks have been built in the new building. Thus, we are adequately supplied with power and water.
 

SOURCES OF INCOME
BEIT Al – Yateem and the Arif al - Nakadi vocational school rely entirely on donors' contributions, small assistance from the Lebanese
Government, and some philanthropic organizations. All contributions, wether in cash or in kind, are listed in our monthly AL MEETHAQ which carriers a detailed financial statement published at the end of the year, and showing all incomes and expenses.
 

The Administration
Beit Al – Yateem and the schools are administered by the Administrative Director, the Treasury, the comptroller and the Chairmen of the teaching sections.
The Administration is supervised by the Board of trustees who lay down plans for improving the various services of beit Al – Yateem, and prepare projects for the future implementation.
